Fashion: Madeleine Vionnet

I'm slowly making my way through some  classic couture designers of note, Vionnet being the third installation in this mini "series" ( prior posts were on Chanel and Lanvin).A few facts I unearthed -Vionnet was famous for the "bias" cut; she eschewed restrictive padding and integrated form and movement in her designs; and she created the cowl neck, halter top and handkerchief dress.....pretty revolutionary for her debut in 1906 .All images from Madeleine Vionnet by Pamela Golbin.

Christmas Finery

I'm a huge fan of Christmas. It's my favourite time of year to go into Manhattan which comes alive with the smell of chestnuts roasting, magical window displays and a palpable excitement in the air.In an attempt to " get in the mood", as we've had unseasonably warm weather here in New England, I'll be making some regular Christmassy posts ....hope you like.....All images from Victoria: 500 Christmas Ideas by Kim Meisner
